Donut Express

M 258 Main St, Medfield, Massachusetts

I have a few favorite Massachusetts coffee shops near the house I grew up in. This particular one I go to more for the donuts than for the coffee. Though both are delicious, it’s harder to find a good donut than it is to find a great cup of coffee and to this day I haven’t tasted a donut that even comes close. Donut Express in Medfield, Massachusetts bakes the best donuts in the entire world and if you ever find yourself in the small Massachusetts suburb, get there.

When I say this place has the best donuts in the world, I mean it. I crave them all day every day while in DC and beg my mom to stock up on them every time I come home. We have a rule though when it comes to Donut Express: we only go after noon because then, all donuts are half-off. We ordered a dozen donuts and two medium iced coffees for a grand total of $8.09. Can’t do that in DC.

While townies will tell you their jelly sticks are by-far the best (they use raspberry jam instead of the usual strawberry) my favorite by far is the marble cruller.

I ordered a snickerdoodle iced coffee to go with my marble cruller. I love snickerdoodle iced coffee and while the flavor is sold in almost every coffee shop in MA, it's a hard commodity to come by in the District. It has a slightly nutty flavor with cinnamon overtones. It's yummy.

When you order flavored coffee at Donut Express the flavor is strong and unapologetic. The coffee is brewed with flavored beans instead of a flavor syrup being added, which is the only way I will drink flavored coffees. Thick and potent, this no frills iced coffee is the perfect match for the world's greatest donut.

Donut Express is in a small strip mall and has a very, very modest interior. The coffee is always spot on and served in a styrofoam cup with a bendy straw. It isn't classy, but it couldn't be more perfect.

When you sit down to enjoy your coffee and donut at Donut Express, you can usually find a "Coffee News" newsletters to read. It is a way for local business to advertise cheaply. The paper is full of funny jokes, quotes, poems, and a brief overview of the week's news. It’s a fun quick read letting you unwind and relax while enjoying the very best donut you’ll ever have.
